Xiamen Customs accepts mobile payment for inbound items

From now on, passengers returning to Xiamen from an overseas visit can use their cell phones to pay tariffs on baggages and items brought back with them, as well as for parcels received from abroad.

This can be done at the Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport, the Xiamen International Cruise Terminal, or the Wutong Ferry Terminal, according to the city’s official news site xmnn.cn.

The service was launched on April 11 when the Xiamen Customs started to accept mobile payments for inbound items. Using the QR code payment system of WeChat or Alipay, passengers can complete the customs clearance procedure in just a few seconds.

It is said that passengers will be able to pay tariffs by debit card in the future. This will significantly shorten the time spent on tariff payment and greatly improve the efficiency of customs clearance process.
