Xiamen unveils sport facilities plan

2018-03-22

Local authorities last week announced newly-detailed plans by the city planning commission for upcoming local sports facilities. The program's goals include a requirement that all communities with a population of at least 10,000 residents provide at least one outdoor sports field covering 1,000 square meters.

Additionally, all sub-districts with a resident population topping 100,000 must have at least one gymnasium. The target is to have sports facilities within a 15-minute walk of all Xiamen residents.

District-level plans call for a gymnasium, a natatorium, a sports park, a sports stadium and an extracurricular sports center for youth in each district. A new city sports center covering more than 100 hectares is also in the works.
