Over 7,000 street lights to be switched on in Tongan by the end of this month

Villagers in Yaotou Village, Xiangping Sub-district of Tong’an District will be happy to learn that they will soon no longer need to carry a flashlight when visiting their neighbors at night, thanks to the district’s new Lighting Project.

Local villager Ye Heping said that now it was much more convenient to go out at night because it was lit up everywhere. This is especially handy for the village elders who can now go out for a walk whenever they feel like it.

Lin Kunhai, another villager, shared similar feelings. “The Lighting Project is very good. We feel safer than before,” he explained.

According to the project description, a total of 7,752 LED street lights will be installed in six villages of the Xiangping Sub-district and all of them will be switched on by the end of this month.

These lights use energy-efficient bulbs which can be automatically switched on when visibility is reduced, on rainy days or when it gets dark for example.

Additionally, each lamp post has a QR code on it. If there is a problem with a street light, one may just scan the code, and electricians will receive a notification with its location and come to fix it.
