Xiamen-Jinmen route adds new ship
On March 9, the New Oriental, a brand new passenger ship, made its maiden voyage from Jinmen to Xiamen, officially taking over from the retired Oriental Star.
The new monohull, which is made of aluminium alloy, is 36.66 meters long and 8.2 meters wide. With the help of its three pump-jets, it can travel at speeds of up to 33.6 knots.
Chen Shuishua, captain of the New Oriental, said that the new ship has a capacity of 320 passengers with two VIP rooms and the journey aboard is smoother and more comfortable compared to its predecessor the Oriental Star.
The ship is well equipped with first aid kits and fire extinguishers and safety checks will be conducted regularly, he added.
At present, the Xiamen-Jinmen route operates ten passenger ships.
