City launches dolphin conservation plan

2017-12-14

Xiamen officials recently unveiled a 10-year conservation plan for the local population of Chinese white dolphins.

Authorities also said that more than 50 organizations joined the Chinese White Dolphin Conservation Union, an alliance of Chinese scientific organizations, academies, museums and marine management authorities. The plan calls for a halt in the decrease of the dolphin population by 2021 and the creation or expansion of five conservation zones.

The program hopes to cover 70 percent of the Chinese white dolphin's common habitat.
