The Chinese Film and Television Investment Forum took place in Xiamen, Fujian province on Sept 20 as part of the 2017 China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT) held in Xiamen from Sept 18 to 21.
The forum gathered experts from the fields of politics, business, media, and film and television and had them discuss film and television investments and the layout of the industry to promote the exchanges and cooperation in the industry.
The forum consists of two parts: keynote speeches and roundtable dialogues, both providing an open communication platform for the attendees.
Lian Jie, president of Perfect World Investment & Holding Group, made a keynote speech titled Investment Concept on Pan-entertainment. He said that the Perfect World earlier lacked versatility in film and television production. Due to the previous issues, now it also produces network dramas, invests in cinemas and embarks on international businesses.
He added that when cooperating with Hollywood companies, the Chinese companies should have firm knowledge of these companies' advantages and make full use of them.
In regard to whether technology can promote or overthrow the film and television industry, Zhu Huilong, chief executive officer of Heyi Pictures Co, believes that technology is merely a connecting tool and cannot replace creative work. It allows companies from different industries to work together and guide the development of film and television industry.
Huang Xiaoming, president of Ming Capital Co, during the discussion on film-making said that Chinese film companies should learn film-making techniques from Hollywood. They usually spend a great deal of time planning and less time shooting, while maintaining great quality.
He added that there is still a long way to go for Chinese films in terms of standardization and industrialization. However, Chinese film and television companies are now assured that they now have a strong desire for producing high-quality films and televisions.
Representatives of Xiamen Siming district government and Ming Capital Co signed a strategic cooperation agreement at the forum in a bid to establish an investment fund and promote the development of film and television industry in Xiamen.
