Martial artists compete in Haicang

The annual Xiamen International Martial Art Tournament concluded yesterday at Haicang Sports Center. A total of 4,159 competitors representing 302 teams participated in the five-day event, including 164 international athletes.

 

Hosted by the Martial Art Management Center of the China General Administration of Sport and the China Marital Art Association, the main tournament events included taekwondo, qigong and wushu. Martial artists from Azerbaijan, Cuba, the Czech Republic, Italy, Norway and the U.K. performed at the opening ceremony.

 

The tournament included thousands of audience members. A workshop on traditional martial arts from the greater Taiwan Strait region took place alongside the competition. Local athletes also announced the formation of the Haicang Association of wuzu boxing, a regional style of martial arts.
